"But they're alive." That is absolutely true. If you are in an accident or if you are being confronted by an enemy, being able to respond quickly is crucial to survival. If you have an enemy who is trying to kill you then being slow to respond will probably get you killed because the enemy won’t hesitate to attack once they know that you are slow reacting to him/her/it/them; slowing down is equivalent to surrendering; you are helpless; you can be killed with no effort on the part of the enemy; your family might even be killed thinking you are dead; etc…
